With patch 5.4 came the biggest set of dev interviews we seen so far. Most of the interviews came from the fansites, some of them from the important public figures of WoW and from Gamescom 2013 meetings as well. After running through all those interviews something caught my attention because it's about the future WoW expansion.
I'm talking here about the Item Squish, or the numbers squish to be exact. This change was first introduced at BlizzCon 2011, if I remember correctly. Basically if this is implemented we wont see such big numbers anymore. No more million hits, no more hundred of thousand dps, no more bosses with billions of hp. All the numbers will go down and we will see more normal numbers.
Here is what Tom Chilton and Cory Stockton said about this:
Cory Stockton: "Yeah, the code can't compile the numbers"
Tom Chilton: "Yeah it can't compile the numbers, so we are testing the item squish internally with the expansion, and I think a good time to launch it would be right before the next expansion so people are already used to it by the time the expansion launches. So, that's the current plan, but we'll see how it works out. I hope we can."
Most likely this Item Squish will be ready for the next expansion and if they are sticking to their plan we might see it in the next expansion intro patch. Like always, there is nothing set in stone yet, but it would be nice to some numbers that we can remember once again.
Do you think World of Warcraft needs a change like this?
