Thought I'd bring some more general topics to the general forums.

I've been taking driving lessons for the last couple of months now and am now approaching my theoretical exam and will hopefully manage to pass the practical exam and receive my license just before I go on holiday.

Now you don't really care about that but it made me curious to your experiences with driving (lessons), if you have any that is. What did you have problems with and how did you overcome them? I for one am too 'drastic' (can't think of a proper word here, help me out ); it's either too much or not at all. Luckily I have the gas and brakes under control now but switching gears is still clunky at best. Any tips to improve on this?

Tips to improve driving skills? Practice, practice, practice. It's the only way.

It's an exam to pass, like any other really. You prepare for it and do the best you can.

Once you've passed the test, you can then throw all the things you've learnt out of the window and drive like every other idiot on the roads :-)

Silly little things that I remember from mine where that after the emergency stop part, take a good deep breath before starting off again.

Strangely enough, I had a real mental block after the test, when they randomly flipped through a book with traffic signs and asked what they meant. All went well until he flipped open a page with a sign like this on it: >>>>

I said that it was a warning sign, indicating a sharp bend in the road ahead. "Yes, but what else?" he asked. That you should be careful as you can't necessarily see what is coming towards you on the other side, I added. "Yeees, but what else?" was the answer that I got, no matter my answer. By this time, I was starting to feel uncomfortable, as up until now, things had been going really well.

In the end, he helped out by asking directly - "which direction doe the curve go?". I was in such a tizzy, that I no longer knew my right from my left and said "that way, errm, RIGHT!". "Yes, thank you ^^".

I passed :-)

It's only as big of a deal as you make it out to be. I aced the drivers test and bombed my physics finals later that day

You'll be fine Arc. You need some experience, you need a few more hours of driving and you'll see that everything will become instinctual (guess this is the right word for this )

Aaaaaaaaaand I made it! 35/40 and 16/25 correct and the requirements to pass are 35/40 and 13/25...

Ah well doesn't matter, it's the practical part that counts. Will apply soon so should have an examiner in a month or 2. Thanks for the advice and the stories guys, had a few laughs and a rofl moment *cough*waflob*cough*.

I was so sad when I discovered RL achievements hadn't been implemented yet. D:

Thanks everyone. Now it's time to go back to pestering my mother, love reminding her how I only 'studied' 3 evenings and still managed to (barely, have to concede a point there) pass the exam. She hates me. xD
