We first heard about this Encounter Journal in the first day of BlizzCon 2010. At first we knew that this tool is going to be launched when Cataclysm came out, but seems like 4.2 is the patch introducing it.
This preview is based on the PTR tests and a lot of things can change, but at least everyone can make a pretty good idea what is this Encounter Journal all about.
For now, as you can see from these screenshots, only the Cataclysm dungeons and raids are listed, but Blizzard will fill the Journal up with older encounters in some future patches.
When you are selecting a dungeon or raid you'll see a piece of lore, introducing you to that encounter and beside that you'll see a list with all the bosses within that instance.
For each boss you'll also get some lore, a 3D model, a loot list and a detailed list of spells and abilities. You can also select 10 man, 25 man or Heroic version for each encounter.
All the abilities are sorted by phases of the fight. Each ability, also has some distinctive icons, so you'll know before reading the ability details that you you can dispell, decurse, dps harder and so on...
If I remember correctly, the Encounter Journal will get a a few more functionalities in the future and among them is a Loot Wish List. For now, the loot list can only be filtered by class.
There is no shortcut yet for the Journal, but you'll find on the Micro Menu on your bar.
Now, tell us your opinion about this new tool. Do you think this will help you? Are you going to use it? Do you see it as an AtlassLoot killer?
